Still working through the shots from sunset in the icy waters of Hay Bay just over a month ago ...

Breakups are hard ... but saying goodbye to scenes like this for another year are especially tough ;-)

The local photo group I belong to made arrangements for access to the interior of the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate. With some restrictions, we were generously allowed to roam about and photograph at our leisure for a couple of hours during one of the quieter times.

When we arrived, I dropped my gear off in a corner that would not interfere with the others, set up for a pre-planned shot of the main ceiling and then wandered around. As I explored, I noticed sunlight through the stained glass windows was creating coloured pools at various points around the interior. I watched these points and waited until the late afternoon sun reached a position where light from one window spilled onto this sculpture.

I've been out shooting since New Brunswick last month, quite a bit actually. But my fall colour and other captures from closer to home will sit for a while longer while I publish the remainder of the images from "out east".

One morning, I spent some time exploring around and under the Salmon River Train Trestle in New Denmark. Billed as "one of Canada's largest train bridges", it's quite an interesting subject, particularly with the fall colours popping.

Huron skies at the end of the day just keep giving and giving ...

shoreside sundown

I made a number of single exposures along with bracketed 3 exposure sets to process as HDR should the dynamic range require them to bring out some detail in the darkened foreground. As it turned out, raising the shadow exposure level in Lightroom was not significantly different that merging 3 exposures into an HDR image.I had already done the work on the HDR so I decided to keep it to include in the blog post for my Photo of the Week (POTW).

The sunset sky colours after sun had dropped below the horizon reflected on the boards of the wet dock and the water's surface to make this composition come alive.

... looking for something different, I decided to experiment with some in camera multiple exposures of fall colours along the cottage road. Choosing to make multiple exposures of the same scene shifting the camera slightly by rotating, moving laterally or vertically instead of combining completely different scenes (which I'll likely try in future), I was pleased with the whimsical set of images that resulted.

I'm not sure that I have the perfect combination of rotation and translation given the subject mater, but I really liked the result I got with this one.

I'm working through my Italy image library and have actually made it to day 3 ... LOL

On our third day, we travelled from Rome to Pompeii for a tour of the archaeological site. I had preconceived expectations of plaster cast figures, placed precisely where the victims were discovered, as I had seen in so many photos. Once we arrived I quickly became caught up making images of what we were being shown, neglecting to ask where or if the plaster casts could be seen ... until near the end of our tour and we were at the point of exit. As it was, I got a number of interesting shots and surprisingly found the coloured frescoes preserved in some of the buildings to be captivating subject matter.

The images can be seen individually in a set here, on my flickr site. I have already printed this collage which will be framed and displayed in the house. Perhaps some of the individual images will be as well.
