Photo of the Week 2021-04-26

COVID lockdown has me sticking fairly close to the house these days and I must admit, I find my creativity suffering under pandemic fatigue. Fortunately I've been keeping a list of image candidates for my Photo of the Week. Coming to you from the archive, is this weeks pick ...

F-F-F-Flat Iron

I've previously experimented with multiple exposure techniques after discovering the work of  Pep Ventosa, Stephanie Jung and others, using both in camera and post processing techniques to create impressionistic images.

Here, I've used a number of original frames of the Gooderham (Flatiron) Building in downtown TO from a number of years ago in addition to some post processing manipulation for my version of the effect..

a trail less travelled ...

... is a good thing.  For me anyway, and this special place always manages to help me find balance.

A quiet trail anywhere is a wonderful thing, and difficult to find in some places these days. A pristine trail, with no people or litter, is pure bliss.

More and more litter is an issue on the trails. How I wish all those seeking the benefit of getting out, in the woods, in a meadow, or on parkland trails, would show appropriate respect.  Why they find it necessary to drop their trash indiscriminately and leave a stain on nature is beyond me. Pick it up, pack it out should be their credo.

Photo of the Week 2021-04-12

On our recent first visit to the farm with Matt & Claire, they led us on a walk around the fields. As we entered the bush and wetland area at the back of the fields, there was a rail fence separating the field from a path into the woods. It just called out to be photographed.

Rail Fence

Sometimes it's the simpler things, the regular, the familiar, that make fine subjects to photograph. These log rails amongst the tall dormant field grass presented an interesting leading line into the darkness of the woods beyond.

It was a lovely walkabout as we were shown around the property. There were early signs of spring all along the way. I'd like to go back, soon, to capture the wildflowers, gardens and fields of wheat as they emerge.

Sulphur Spring ... an abstract

Sulphur Spring - Reflection

I'd wanted to explore Sulphur Spring Conservation Area ever since seeing the signs for it along the road as we pass near Hanover on our way to the cottage.

Not knowing what to expect, I stopped in recently and did the short hike to the main attraction, the spring itself. Finding it difficult to capture the spring in an image, I went with a shot looking down into the deep water of the spring, catching the reflection of sky and adjacent trees in the hypnotic movement of the water surface.
