Sometimes you just need to pick up the camera and go for a walk ...

... with a destination and image in mind.
This time of year I knew the sun was setting farther north, around the point from our place. Lake Huron water levels up about a meter since we got our place in 2013 and we can no longer taken the chairs out past the tree line to sit and watch sunset.
Having given some thought to a location that would provide foreground for the backdrop of a beautiful sunset, I gathered up a camera and mounted the lens I'd need for my intended composition. Then I checked the time against the weather app on my phone that gives a precise expectation for the hour & minute of sunset. I grabbed some insect repellent to apply along the way and headed out the door.
Fifteen minutes later I was on location, checked a couple of variations for the final composition and 'click' ... or in this case 'click, click, click' and I had what I came for.

I went almost two weeks without adding any new images to my library. Oh I've been busy enough with photography, printing and framing a number of images. I was able to print and deliver a couple of images to clients, then print and frame the first of my images to be displayed for sale at Ancient Cedars Cafe in Tobermory. Sean and Judy have been kind enough to offer up wall space in their dining room for local artists to display and I will have my work displayed there through the end of July.
I also need to continue adding to my library of images of "the Bruce" so I can keep my display at Upper Deck Mercantile Gallery fresh. So it was great to get out on Sunday morning and hit a few locations for some much needed capture time. The Yellow Lady Slippers are in full bloom on Northern Bruce Peninsula and I had been waiting for the opportunity to photograph them but this morning offered much more than just the Lady Slippers.
I got the day started at Dorcas Bay / Singing Sands, with some bracketed exposures across the fen towards the rising sun with an HDR in mind.

Sunrise at Lighthouse Lake
On the final day in Killarney, we decided against hiking the Chikanishing Trail because of an ailing knee belonging to my travel companion. There was enough else yet to see and photograph so we headed back to the area near the lighthouse in the town of Killarney.
A section of Lighthouse Lake near the car park was particularly interesting with pines along the shoreline and several contrasting areas showing fall colour. As I walked out onto a rock point jutting into the lake, the sun starting to break over some pines to illuminate trees along the west shore. I sat listening to the sounds of morning and waited for the sun to rise enough to reach the red leaves and made my image, or images to be more precise.
In order to show detail in both the shaded foreground and brightly lit shoreline in the distance, I resorted to High Dynamic Range processing. The image above is the product of 3 exposures (-2,0,+2) processed in Photoshop CS5 with NIK HDR Efex Pro. I think it conveys the morning scene quite well.
