"Variety is the spice of life"

... I find this to be true in my photographic life.

When people discover that photography is a passion for me, they frequently ask me what I photograph. My usual response is something like "mostly nature, landscape and wildlife", though in truth, I enjoy photographing just about everything.

In the past month alone, I have photographed a variety of subject matter, with a variety of cameras, in a variety of styles. Travel, Documentary, Nature, Wildlife, Landscape, Street, and Infrared are all genres that my photography has touched in a short few weeks. Photography really is a 'Journey' for me, an enjoyable, sometimes whimsical, sometimes frustrating, always enlightening journey.

Here's a sampling of what I saw through my lens in November 2019. None of these have been shared prior to this post, though others from the respective outings may have ... enjoy.

not so shy

As my 'bio' reads: "My library of work could be described as a somewhat eclectic collection but primarily covers the outdoors, landscape, nature and wildlife. I make images of scenes and subjects that move me visually, sharing them with others through my photographic fine art prints and online."

To everyone who follows me on the 'journey' offering encouragement and comment, I sincerely thank you. To those who don't yet, I invite you to follow along.

So much to see and photograph in Guatemala, but with only a week with my son, I wanted to enjoy the time with him rater than spending all the time looking through the viewfinder ...

Antigua in the AM
... that said, I did take a camera suitable for packing light in a single carry-on sized backpack that was my luggage for the week.

6 AM waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up outside the hostel and take us to Pacaya for our volcano hike, I pulled out the P&S camera to capture some of the local street ... and of course a lone figure walked by as if on queue.

Another vintage / textured treatment for this one ... it's how it felt to me.

I was doing some printing and framing over the weekend to fulfill some requests for images as gifts for Christmas and Lynn asked me to print another one of these. The first one I framed and it hangs in the house where it frequently reminds me of our wonderful trip to Quebec City in 2009.

Quebec Streetscape

Lynn and I were relaxing after dinner on Sunday and she remarked that her favourite images of mine are the ones when she was there and can recall experiencing the scene first hand. It's an interesting point. I guess that's why I love going back through my image library. There are thousands of images. Every one brings back the emotion of experiencing the scene when I first made the image.

That can be something easily lost with the medium of digital photography ... the images are archived to disc and not printed out or viewed after that. Whether it's by the photographer, a family member or friend ... images should be experienced and enjoyed. Unless the photographer takes the time to go back through the library ... or to load them to a computer screen saver ... or best of all to print and display, the joy from one's own images can be lost .

Photographers, make sure you go back through the library, digital or analog, enjoy your images. Print them. Load them on digital frames. Post them on the interwebs ... I do and I enjoy.
