Happy Thanksgiving !

Driving north on Friday, it was evident that some of the maples had decided it was time to show their stuff by Thanksgiving weekend. Fall colour had finally arrived on 'the Bruce' in some measure ... while having coffee in the pre-dawn silence early Saturday, I decided it was time for some morning exploration along roads of the North Bruce.

I have my favourite spots, they always reach out, seducing me with their beauty, trying their best to make me stop and visit. This time I would resist and push on to unfamiliar ground, leaving familiarity behind, searching for a new muse ...

Photo(s) of the Week 2012-02-27

This past week I was east of Toronto with my mother for a few days. Daily I traveled from Brooklin to Oshawa taking Simcoe St. past the now abandoned Windfields Farms of the late E.P. Taylor. Formerly a 6 square kilometer Canadian horse breeding facility, Windfields has always caught my eye and I finally decided to stop and make some images.

Windfields Gates

The legacy of Windfields Farm will live on in Canadian and horse racing history. These are the main gates to E.P. Taylor's once thriving Windfields Farm. Beyond these gates, the final resting place of Northern Dancer.

The property will soon be consumed by urban development. Reportedly, the grave of Northern Dancer and 15 other horses will be preserved in a memorial garden.

... more from my brief stop at Windfields Farm.

I must plan a return visit before it is gone ...

long winter lane

Just another week until the official arrival of Spring ... and scenes like this will be gone for another year. I couldn't resist stopping on my way to work last Friday when I passed a familiar spot. The entrance to this property has always intrigued me, with it's long tree & shrub lined lane.

I processed the image in Adobe LR3 and later CS5 to create the surreal effect, some have described as "painterly". I have used it before and I think with good results. In this case ti imparts a "wonderland" feel to the scene.

Here's to the arrival of Spring, but also, here's to the winter past.
