Photo of the Week 2024-01-22

I know it's a month after but ... In addition to all the love and warmth we shared over several days during Christmas with family, hosted by Matt and Claire at their farm, I was able to get out with camera on a foggy Christmas Day morning and wander around the property ...

'  Christmas Day Fog at Revolve - I '

...  while Lynn and I had Fortuna out for her morning runabout. It was a "let's see how 'Tuna is with recall when it's just Lynn and Doug" adventure before we were left in charge for a couple of days while Matt and Claire went to visit with her family.

I'm happy to report that 'little Tuna' was a wonderfully behaved girl from the get go. Fortunately I got to make a number of images that morning because it warmed up and rained for the rest of our time there keeping us indoors for the most part.

For the image, I decided to do a touch of colour grading and adjustments to enhance the ethereal feel of the scene out by the barn, looking back towards the house. As an added bonus, here's a collage of detail images I shot inside during our stay.

I hope your memories of this Christmas are as wonderful as mine ...

Clark Christmas Gathering 2016

At each annual Christmas Gathering, there is now a family photo session. Oh they mumble and they grumble and they laugh and ask how long this is going to take and someone tells me to hurry up. They won't cooperate easily, or stop chatting and fidgeting to look at the camera all at the same time. But I always pull off a Masterpiece !

;-)

one serious ...

and one having a little fun ...
I hope everyone has an opportunity to share some time with family over the coming holidays.

After some business meetings in Ottawa recently, I was out for a quick dinner and then over to the Parliament Buildings to see the first night of the annual light show for the Christmas Holidays. There were fireworks, a choir singing and the projection of Christmas scenes on the main building facade. We arrived a little late, and I was still able to get a few quick shots of Centre Block lit up in the festive spirit, but it was the smoke clearing from the fireworks display and the crowd pouring off Parliament Hill through the gates and onto Wellington with traffic still flowing that caught me photographer's eye. It looked more like crowds fleeing a fire than families who had come in the Christmas spirit to listen to the choir and see the lights.

Here's what the light show looked like with the smoke clearing off in the night breeze.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy Holiday Season !

The electronic version of this year's Christmas Card.

I individually craft my greeting cards. What do I mean by that? Well I layout and format the text and verse, if there is one. Each card is printed individually on archival paper stock cut and scored specifically for greeting cards. For printing the text I use my home office printer, then I reload the sheets individually into my Epson Professional Photo Printer and print the photo on each one myself. I set them out to dry before hand folding and there you have it.

It's something I choose to do rather than order my cards from printing service that uses automated processes. Each of my cards has a little of my personal touch.

Enjoy time with family, friends and loved ones over the holidays everyone.

Clark Clan - Christmas 2011

This past weekend it was
time for the 2011 Clark Clan Christmas get together at my sister-in-laws. As with most family functions these days, it is difficult to get everyone in the family in the same spot at the same time. Nonetheless, a number of my wife's family gathered to share some seasonal cheer.

An idea to take the opportunity and get a group shot of everyone with Audrey, the matriarch, grew into setting up a backdrop for a "silly or serious" portrait session for anyone who wanted to get in front of my lens. I thought there might be a little more silliness but a few faced the strobes for impromptu portraits and I was able to get a great shot of everyone who was still around after dinner.

One of those who wanted a serious portrait was by brother-in-law Bill. He'll be retiring from the Toronto Fire Department next year and wanted a formal portrait of him in his uniform. I was glad to oblige and he was quite willing to cooperate as I tried out different lighting setups in the rather tight quarters of the basement where I had set up a temporary studio.

Wendy dropped by, as she usually does to say hi and wish everyone well. Lynn told her she had to come downstairs to have a portrait made to show off her festive hair style.

... and Jessica was there again this year. Who can resist the little ones this time of year.
Once she warmed up to me she played to the camera.

Christmas 2010 - Jessica's Reach

Children are such great photographic subjects, just follow them around or watch them for a while and you are bound to be presented with a photographic moment.

Jessica was unsure of the me with my camera watching her during family Christmas celebrations this year. After a short while she went on with the things that young ones do at these gatherings, paying only sporadic attention to me. That's when the moment occurred ...

... no worries, all the decorations are fine, Jessica's mom was close at hand to watch over her, and the decorations.
