Photo of the Week 2023-01-30

I've been working on an image over the past few days, blending layers from several captures. Quite a few hours have been spent trying to get the best out of what I have to work with. It's a winter night image with lights and required different exposures to pull everything into a single composite. I thought I'd have it ready for this weeks post but that didn't happen and I was looking at other options for an image this week.

There is always something in the image catalogue but then I took the scenic way home from Lombardy to drive through Bedford Mills where research had shown an old mill, pond and cascade. There was a weather warning in effect for significant snowfall and it had arrived overnight, still falling when I left for home. I was pleased when I pulled into the area I had scouted out. The atmosphere provided by blizzard conditions was perfect for what I had imagined.

If winter won't come to DJEnglandPhotography then ...
DJEnglandPhotography will go where there is winter

Snow had fallen and actually managed to stick around where I was going to spend a few days, and I was very pleased for a number of reasons, not least of which was the photo opportunities it would provide. It wasn't cold, real winter cold like it should be in January, but cold enough for me to get a 'winter photography' fix the first day ... maybe more, stay tuned.

' Revolve Farms In Winter '
I'd been looking for an opportunity to photography this place freshly blanketed in winter white, as pristine as it could be. When it snowed a day or so before my scheduled arrival, the anticipation started to grow.

I'd offered to 'farm sit' so Matt & Claire could have some time with her family. My duties were lessened thanks to an energetic ermine that recently took out 10 chickens, so no chicken duty, no fresh eggs. Just me and 'Fortuna the Great' for a week of adventure in and around Revolve Farms.

I haven't been out shooting much in these grey, dull first days of 2023 ... the absence of winter wonderland scenes and scapes finds me devoid of inspiration. While I reboot and reset my expectations, here is an image from a few years ago as a winter storm approached over the ice forming on Hay Bay.

What does mother nature have in store for us? There is still time for her winter witchery ... I hope.

Photo of the Week 2023-01-02

As we begin another trip around our fiery orb in the sky, rather than look back and pick "my best #(whatever)" from 2022, I went back to see what was left, overlooked, unfinished or abandoned ... and there happens to be quite a bit.

First I turned to a collection I keep entitled "for posting" and realize that there are images there from as far back as 2009. This collection contains mostly mages that I completed processing at the time but never posted for one reason or another. Some may have been too similar to other I did choose to post, others may have just been left behind as I moved on to newer captures.

It was an interesting exercise and I realize that there are likely a fair number of images lurking in the shadows, worthy of another look. Perhaps they will be released in 2023, but for now I've selected just one, a sunset image from exactly one year ago today.

Just another sunset, a glorious January sunset on Hay Bay ...

P.S.  to give you a peek at what is in the "for posting" collection.
