Adirondack Adventure

... just back from a few days in Lake Placid with Lynn. We chose to go to the Adirondack region of New York State for some relaxation and fall colour. Though you can't see it in this image, the colours were spectacular and so was the view from Whiteface Mountain. We took the Veterans Memorial Highway to the summit (almost) the last 270 or so vertical feet are by elevator or the "Stairway Ridge Trail". I'll let you guess which one we took up ...

(this was taken just after starting our hike to the summit, looking back to Lake Placid below through swirling clouds)

... here's the "Stairway Ridge Trail"

The ridge trail takes you from elev. 4610 to elev. 4867 ft, almost a mile above sea level. Though this is tame by many standards, I found it exhilarating and hope to return for some of the more challenging hikes in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks.

... on the way up ...
