Photo of the Week 2024-07-08

Introducing Sullivan ... now 13 weeks old and as of today he's been with us one whole week :-D

What does a photographer do when they get a new puppy? Well they break out the camera of course ...

The first two images were shot as a trial of the close focus capabilities of my new Irix 15mm f/2.4. I purchased the lens for astrophotography but wanted to try it out for some creative puppy portraits.

The second tow images were shot with the venerable Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS III, a known performer on DSLR's and still excellent on an R5 with an adapter. I chose this over the RF version because it is an internal zoom design which I prefer.

' Murphy '

It is with the heaviest hearts that we said goodbye to our "sweet boy" Murphy just a few short days ago. Such a profound part of our lives and our family for nearly 15 years, his loss has left an unimaginable hole in life. We know he is gone yet we feel him everywhere, expect to see him everywhere ...

I have not felt the urge to create or prepare any new images in the last few days. Actually, feeling a bit lost, I considered letting this Monday pass without publishing a photo of the week. I had nothing that I felt I wanted to share though Lynn and I had begun to think about a collage of Murphy photos for framing. So I sat this morning to go through my images. There is not one photo of him that does not move me, all tug at my heartstrings.

Scrolling along through the library, so many memories were stirred, so many good times, so many tears. It got to the point where I could no longer see clearly so I stopped, for now ... and this image is were I stopped.

Happy Birthday Murph !

Murphy, our Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrirer turns 3 today.

It hardly seems that long ago that we brought an 8 week old, tiny, caramel and black coloured pup home. Murph is a great companion for Lynn and I as we hike the local trails, something we need to do more.

Yesterday we decided to hike around Rattlesnake Point. Murph enjoyed the fallen leaves and new smells so much he was a bounding handful on leash for Lynn at first. Eventually he settled down, as he always does and he sat in the dappled soft light filtering through what remains of the leaves for this candid portrait.

He'll be getting a haircut shortly so that he has time for some to grow back before the winter comes. In the meantime, Lynn is constantly combing the debris and burrs out of his coat. Yesterday was no exception.

Another hike next week ...
