' sun worship '

After a second
full day of shooting between Superior Provincial Park and Wawa, we arrived at Government Dock Beach to set up for a sunset session.

Another group of visitors showed up shortly after us and photobombed my composition and I waited to see what I could make of it. I had already selected my set up position to have the rugged rock and water pools dominate the foreground with the sun positioned central R to L. Moving to another spot to compose without people in frame was an option, but the others were roaming about and I did not want to miss the sun dip below the horizon.

Ultimately I turned to the tools available in post processing to 'remove' one or two people who were distracting, but chose to leave one expressive character for both scale and additional interest.

A favourite place to just sit back, relax and enjoy the show ...

Sometimes it's the right place at the right time ... fully prepared or not !

After stopping on an evening walk to use our friend's new dock as a different vantage point for some sunset photos I was underwhelmed with the show. Chilled from the dropping temperature and wind of Lake Huron I headed back to the cottage for the night ...

They call it Devil Island
(... and now I think I know why)

... but I had to head back out looking for the lens cap I had dropped somewhere along the route I had taken. I checked all of the places I stopped, including the deck and when I got to the end of the road I got distracted by the sky ablaze through the trees. Investigating a little further, I made my way a short few meters through the bush to what used to be shoreline, but the water level is up and now into the trees leaving no room for dry footing and a clear view out over the water.

Suffice to say I got my shoes and pants soaking wet ... but I got the shot !

I was reminded again this weekend, that good opportunities for landscape photography can be found along my regularly travelled routes. A location that Patrick had suggested in conversation last week proved to be just the ticket for our weekend outing with Alan still recovering from whatever biological agent he had been battling for over a week.

It was a leisurely daybreak stroll along the concession roads bordering some rolling pasture land just east of town that provided the subject matter and background for imagery on this day.

misty mount

I stood beside
the road and watched this horse and it's companions in the fog, early on a recent fall morning . The intensity of the mist would diminish and intensify in slow moving waves as it responded to the gentle breeze. The feeling was surreal ... the scene fading in and out in front of my eyes.
