HAPPY NEW YEAR ! - Photo of the Week 2024-01-01

' FIRST LIGHT 2024 '
"First Light" is a challenge laid down by a long time friend. The idea is to get outside and capture an image at sunrise on the first day of a new year. At least that's how I've understood it.

This New Year's Morning had me out to Dunks Bay on the east side of the Bruce Peninsula in search of any hint of sunrise that would penetrate the heavy low cloud cover over all that I could see of Dunks and the greater Georgian Bay from my beach vantage point at 8:05 AM.

While I did make a few lacklustre images there before packing the gear back into the truck, the real show was delayed and started as cloud began to break in one small section to the sky to the NE. Good luck was on my side this first day of 2024 and the break had moved over Hay Bay as I arrived back at our place. I headed back down to the shore and grabbed some more interesting images, albeit 20 min after official sunrise but that was how First Light 2024 rolled in for me.

Happy New Year 2020

HAPPY NEW YEAR !
Photographically, another year begins with the 'First Light Challenge' ... the 12th year I have taken up the camera and trekked out to capture my world at sunrise on the first day of a new year.

This year was a bit different, Lynn and Murphy accompanied me as I got up and out early on New Years Day to head into the village to make this panorama at 8:06 am, official sunrise here in Tobermory. It's been a few years since I've had the company Alan for the tradition he started and I welcomed having someone to share the experience with.

Wishing you and yours, health and happiness through another year.

First Light 2018 - HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Another year, another 'First Light Challenge'. For this, THE 10th YEAR, I decided to stay a little closer to home (in this case the cottage) with coffee close at hand and the idea of creating a 360* panorama of the New Year Dawn scene that greeted me at first sunrise of 2018.

First Light 2018
The tradition, one that a dear friend kindly invited me to join him in 10 years ago, remains unbroken. An online chat with him early this morning bolstered my resolve to continue beyond this year despite ebbing enthusiasm for an early rise, to leave the warmth and indoor comfort, on the crisp cold morning of each new year, in the search for 'First Light'.
